Empowering Individuals with IDD

Direct support professionals (DSPs) are dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They go beyond providing care, focusing on empowerment and community integration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with daily living tasks: DSPs help with activities like bathing, dressing, and eating, while encouraging independence whenever possible.
  • Provide transportation: Ensuring reliable transport allows individuals to attend appointments, work, and social events, actively engaging with their community.
  • Offer emotional and social support: Strong relationships and companionship foster well-being. DSPs create a supportive environment where individuals feel valued and understood.
  • Advocate for individuals: DSPs empower individuals to express their needs and desires, ensuring their voices are heard and rights respected.
  • Support community integration: DSPs help individuals participate in activities like volunteering, joining clubs, or finding employment, promoting social inclusion and fulfilling lives.
